You can no longer use the word “Group” on your company name

For whatever reason, if you want to register a company with the word “group” in its name, well, good luck with that. Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC) on February 9, 2015 through a notice requested not to apply for name clearance with the word “group”.

In Bangladesh, “group” is usually used in company name to suggest that it is a holding company (i.e. a parent company of several other subsidiary companies).

Our contacts in the RJSC informed us that the RJSC regularly received requests for name clearance for company names with the word group without any legitimate reason and allegedly, with the intention to give impression of a group. Most of the time the RJSC denied such applications for name clearance.

It is not clear what will happen if you need to use the word “group” in your company name for genuine reason. From our experience, we assume, RJSC will consider your application.
